How to turn blogging into a profitable business

Blogging can be a great source of passive income and the ticket to financial freedom. In fact, blogging offers so many opportunities for many people today.

It seems everybody has a blog these days. What started out as a quirky way to make money has now become mainstream. However, if you are new to blogging, you will need to learn how to start a profitable blogging business.

A blog can be a business or a hobby. But you will have to treat it like a business if you want to make money. For instance, to make it as a full-time blogger will require some dedication and a change in mindset.

Turning blogging into a full-time job

Nowadays, self-employment is on the rise and you too can easily become a successful self-employed blogger. However, you will need to have the right tools and commitment to make it happen.

If you know ahead of time that you plan to make enough money to take it full time, then you need to take some steps now to do this. In this article, I will go over some ways to approach your blog so it can become a legitimate business.

How to turn blogging into a profitable business

#1]. Watch your expenses

Though the barrier to entry on a financial level is low for blogging, you will have expenses. Make sure you track your blog expenses to have an idea of where your money is going.

To really grow your blog, you will need to outsource some of the work. You can hire writers to make the content, a social media manager to post to social, a virtual assistant to upload to your blog and many other types of small jobs.

Starting out you will be a one-man band but eventually, you’ll get to a point in which you can’t do it all. Also, look at sites like Money Monarch to help you research some productivity apps and other ways to grow your blog.

#2]. Reinvest your earnings

Blogging is not a straightforward business that you will launch today and start making money immediately. It will take a while to see any income, but when it does come, make sure you are using the money to grow your blog.

As I mentioned in the last section, there are a number of jobs that should be done by others to free you up to focus on the big picture. Use your blog earnings to make this happen and you will see your blog grow much faster.

#3]. Be analytical about profits

Your blog is making money and you are finally seeing all the hard work pay off. Now is the time to take a step back and evaluate how you’re making money.

The fact that there is money coming in at all is a great sign that the blog is, in fact, viable, but you are probably leaving money on the table if you get complacent. If all of your income is coming from one source, ie ads, affiliate commissions, sponsored posts, then you need to diversify.

You should have multiple income streams from your blog to protect it and to be able to increase revenue. If you are making money solely from ads and the CPM changes, then your income will be wiped out overnight. Likewise, if all of your money comes from affiliate commissions.

Those rates can change at any time and you will be left with a fraction of what you were making. If you are running ads, apply to some affiliate programs within your niche. Also, you can make your own informational product and keep even more of the money for yourself. Whatever you do, make sure you analyse the possibilities.
