Though PayPal is the number one payment gateway when it comes to online transaction payments, there are other PayPal alternatives that are equally good.
From shopping on popular e-commerce sites like eBay.com and Amazon.com to making a payment for services and sending money to friends, PayPal has become a household name when it comes to online transaction payments.
The popularity of PayPal is so enormous that not many people actually know that there are other PayPal alternatives that are also very good and secure for online payments.
Why PayPal is good for your business
When it comes to shopping online, people are extremely concerned about safety, credit card details being at risk, or not being able to get a refund if the item they purchased is unsatisfactory.
Also, other people are concerned about not being able to use their local credit card on a website. This is where online payment services like PayPal are useful. PayPal makes it easy to send, receive and even request money across borders.
PayPal alternatives
So, if you have an online business, you will probably be thinking about how your customers will be making the payments securely and without the fear of being scammed.
This is where PayPal is useful for your online business as it helps you process payments with ease and rest of mind. However, below are other Paypal alternatives offering almost the same services as Paypal.
#1). Google Wallet
At the moment, Google Wallet is mainly used in the US but it accepts credit or debit cards from many countries. It acts as a digital wallet, more so in the US as you can tap to pay in-store with an NFC-enabled Android device.
As for online shopping, there are a handful of online merchants that accept checking out with Google Wallet. Unlike PayPal, Google Wallet is strictly for merchants, so you cannot send money to other Google Wallet users.
However, there are no chargeable fees when using Google Wallet online or in-store, this is good if you’re shopping on one of their online merchants where it only accepts US credit cards and not your local one.
#2). Skrill
Skrill used to be known as MoneyBookers; it allows you to send and receive money to other users. It works with other online banking services in certain countries and for all other countries, you can send and receive money with a debit or credit card.
Each country is also charged differently when sending and withdrawing funds from MoneyBookers. MoneyBookers focuses more on sending money between users as there are very few online merchants that allow you to checkout with its services.
However, their main focus of being able to send money of any currency to anywhere in the world is solid, making it a close competitor to PayPal.
#3). Paymate
Paymate is a great way for sellers based in Australia and New Zealand to get money from international buyers from many countries.
Sellers from the two countries can use Paymate on their website or on Ebay Australia for a small fee. As for the buyers, all you have to do is key in your credit card information to pay, taking away the hassle of creating an account.
Although this means there’s no way to send money to another user, online merchants can take advantage of Paymate as an alternative payment. Also, your credit card details are not sent to the seller but handled securely by Paymate.
#4). Stripe
Stripe offers a unified online payments infrastructure for millions of businesses of all sizes. Businesses from startups to large enterprises, use Stripe’s software and APIs to accept payments, send payouts, and manage their businesses online.
Stripe’s products power payments for online and in-person retailers, subscriptions businesses, software platforms and marketplaces, and everything in between.
Also, it helps companies beat fraud, send invoices, issue virtual and physical cards, get financing, manage business spending, and much more. Explore Stripe Payments, or create an account instantly and start accepting payments.
#5). Payoneer
Payoneer.com is an interesting way to pay for online shopping. Registering for the service grants you access to a prepaid MasterCard which will be sent to your doorstep.
Creating an account is free and you’re only charged when you activate the card. Once the card is activated, you can load money into the card from your local bank or other credit cards.
An activated Payoneer card can be used in many countries and in different currencies. Of course, maintaining the use of this activated card requires an annual fee.
With the card, you can purchase items and even withdraw money from a MasterCard ATM.
#6). Dwolla
Dwolla is another popular PayPal alternative being used as a payment service and a platform to send money to anyone on the internet. While users can normally use this service to make online payments and send or receive money, business owners can sign up and use Dwolla to receive money from their customers.
Dwolla users can send money to email addresses, LinkedIn connections, Twitter followers, phone numbers, and businesses that accept Dwolla. Dwolla also lets you process thousands of payments at a time through Dwolla MassPay.
#7). Payza
Formally known as AlertPay, Payza lets you send and receive money from 190+ countries across 21 currencies. The service is mainly based in US and Canada but also supports certain banks and credit/debit cards from their recognized countries.
You can add funds to your Payza account via bank transfer or credit card, send money to other users, and even request money through invoices.
Creating an account is free but for all the above services of transferring money, there is a small fee which is quite competitive compared to PayPal.
Besides transferring money between users, Payza is a great payment service for online merchants with a lot of security features and can also help you manage multiple businesses with one account.

Please note that Payza is currently not available due to a court order in the US
Hey Adeyemi,
Thanks for sharing. For me, I uses only two for my affiliate marketing; PayPal and Payoneer. Both are pretty decent and yet to try Google Wallet.
Might try that soon and thanks for taking the time to write this mate.
Hi Reginald,
I have tried all of them including Paypal and I personally think that they are all good but obviously not as popular as the almighty Paypal. But the fact that Paypal is not available in certain countries should give other alternatives the opportunity to explore such market. Thanks for visiting, reading and commenting!
I’ve been using Paypal since I started internet marketing. No qualms so far..
