The text may claim that you’ve been in contact with someone who has COVID-19. You could then be asked to click on a link to provide your financial information in order to book and pay for a PCR test.
Do not engage or share your bank details. This may lead to card fraud or the fraudster may follow up with a phone call posing as someone from the bank. Be careful, don’t get caught out by fake Coronavirus text messages.

Criminals are taking advantage of the crisis in Ukraine to scam innocent people by posing as Ukrainian entities in need of humanitarian aid. They’re tricking people to donate to fake fundraising campaigns including cryptocurrency donations.
Action Fraud has reported that they’ve already received over 200 reports of fake emails pretending to raise money for those affected by the crisis. It means scammers are preying on those who want to help victims of the war.
They are sending deplorable scam emails with fake fundraising for Ukraine. Please be vigilant. Avoid responding to unsolicited emails, texts, and social media adverts. Always visit the official websites when making donations.

With the current energy price cap rise, many scammers are impersonating energy providers and some government agencies.
Fake emails relating to refunds, payment owed, or offering to find you the best deal are designed to steal your personal and financial information.
Always be careful and make sure you visit official websites only. Also, do not click on any suspicious adverts.

Criminals are also calling people, posing as the bank’s fraud team, and asking you to divulge details from the message, or telling you how to respond to it.
Luckily, UK banks have promised to send their customers a message if they suspect a criminal is trying to use their bank cards fraudulently. This means banks will send you a message in order to check if it was really you making the payment.
If you think someone is trying to trick you into handing over money or personal details… Stop. Hang up. Call 159. You will be safely directed to your bank.
Report the scam call
If you have been scammed or suspicious of scams or fraudulent activities, please report the scam to the police.
You can report the incident to Action Fraud on Tel: 0300 123 2040. If you can, supply the name of the company (or at least, who they claimed to be), plus – if possible – the phone number they called you from.
If you’ve been a victim of a scam call or given your bank details to an unsolicited caller, it’s important to take some key steps.
Contact Action Fraud and seek a crime reference number to help you pursue any lost funds from your bank. Also, alert your bank to what has happened, and to be extra safe, run an up-to-date security scan. Scan your computer with an effective security tool.
