Twitter marketing tips to consider

From millions of unknown people like me and you to very popular politicians as well as celebrities, Twitter is the new home for people from all walks of life.

However, it’s not just about being on Twitter, it’s more about making Twitter work for your business marketing activities.

Whether tweeting as yourself or from a brand account, there are certain ways you can ensure you are getting the best out of the time spent on Twitter.

Below are some valuable Twitter marketing tips you should consider especially if you use Twitter to market your business.

#1]. Only follow people of similar interests

We all have different reasons for being on Twitter – some are there to keep up with trendy issues or topics whereas some people on Twitter want more than that.

If you are using Twitter for marketing and promotion, then it’s important to follow the right people. By following Twitter users with similar interests, you are giving yourself the opportunity not only to enrich yourself through their tweets but also to get your tweets to people that will value them.

You should always remember that your Twitter marketing efforts can only yield positive results when your tweets get to the right audience globally.

#2]. Don’t overuse Hashtags

Another thing is the issue of Hashtags, which is very important especially if you want your tweets to reach more audience than your followers. Hashtag is extremely popular amongst the internet marketers.

But as good as the hashtag is, it’s important not to overuse it in a tweet because it will make you look amateur. Too many hashtags make your tweets look ridiculous and water their relevance and usefulness down.

#3]. Engaging and relevant followers

The good idea of following and being followed is interaction and when this is not happening, then you should check the people you are following. When people follow you, it’s nice to follow back, but it’s not required. The best idea is to follow influential Twitter users and people who frequently retweet or comment on your tweet.

Twitter management tool

You don’t have to follow everyone that follows you and there’s nothing bad in unfollowing those that have no engagement with you and your tweets. Always ensure that the people you follow are relevant and add value. For this purpose, there are some Twitter management tools out there that you can use to manage your Twitter account and clean up your following list.

#4]. Make sure your tweets always add value

Tweets that add value usually get more retweets and exposure which may result in more followers. Your tweets should always add value to your followers’ day. This is important especially if you are using Twitter for business marketing and promotion.

If your tweets add value, your will be making yourself an influencer or high-value user in your niche. And again, don’t just tweet headlines and links. Also, don’t make it a habit to retweet every tweet you see on Twitter – only retweet tweets that add value to your followers.

#5]. Avoid automation if possible

Not all automated tweets are bad but it’s good to avoid it if possible. The thing is that you should always ensure that your automated tweets sound as human as possible. Remember that Twitter users are clever people and always have your followers in mind when tweeting.

And again, when you share links on Twitter, make sure you share relevant and informative links. Always give your followers an impression that you actually know your onions.

  • The hashtag one is so true and lots of people are doing it. It’s just ridiculous as you have rightly put it. I think the only way to get more out of Twitter is to it the right way. You have made some really good points there

  • Hi Adeyemi,
A caveat here on point number one. I think networking with a range of connections is best. If you’re a marketer, following only other marketers may not necessarily be helpful. Find people whose needs are complimentary to your own, those whose services you need or who need your services. What do you think? • Hi Heather,

You honestly got me on that. But my point of following people of similar interests is because in most cases, some people will still follow you whether you follow them back or not.

I have met quite lots of people on Twitter following a couple of hundred but then they have more than 15k followers. So I guess in their case, they only follow people that share similar interests with them.

  • This is a really well-written article on Twitter as a business marketing tool. I’m already following you on Twitter. I’m undoubtedly enjoying your blog and look forward to new updates.
