Why SEO? Do we really need SEO? What is SEO and why do we need it? SEO is one of the most commonly misused term, which stands for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO is something you must have heard of especially if you own a website. You are probably getting spam emails from SEO companies selling their services.
So what does SEO mean and why do you need it for your WordPress website? Well, SEO is a way of tweaking your website to improve its visibility on Google search.
SEO optimises your website to make it is easy for Google to find and index the pages on your website and what it means is that you will get more relevant traffic to your site.
Why you need WordPress SEO?
You need SEO for your WordPress Website or Blog because without it, no-one will go to your site. If they can’t find it in Google how will they ever know your site exists. If you’re lucky, some people may stumble across your site but that will do little to get you up onto the first page of Google.
How to get started with WordPress SEO
None of this is rocket science, and there are plenty of reference sites on the Internet that will tell you how to do all this yourself.
The first place to start is with the Title tags. The title tag, the most important tag on your site. It tells search engines what your page is about.
A common mistake people make with titles is they put their own name or brand in their. This is not needed and it confuses the search engines. Better to put info about the specific page in the title tag, since your name or brand has already been indexed by Google and you don’t need to confuse it any more.
WordPress SEO by Yoast
This is an incredibly powerful plugin and one of my favourite SEO plugins so far. Its features beat those of Platinum SEO and All in One SEO hands down.
In fact, to get the same sort of functionality out of All in One SEO, you would need to upgrade to the pro version. This plugin will create xml sitemaps and connect to Google and Bing Webmaster tools.
There are also powerful import/export features if you want to migrate at any point, which is handy for users wanting to switch from All in One SEO.
